傳說，陷入愛河的人們都會(huì)情不自禁把歌唱，并且還會(huì)自己給自己伴舞。從表妹的舉動(dòng)看來，這次的戀愛相當(dāng)成功啊！這首卡彭特的“Top of the world”（《世界之巔》）唱了一個(gè)禮拜。Oh! 她真是“on top of the world”！
這句你絕對(duì)不可不知：“on top of the world”就是“樂翻了天、格外高興、欣喜萬分”的意思。20世紀(jì)初，西方很多作家就開始頻繁地使用這個(gè)短語了，那時(shí)他們喜歡說“someone is sitting on top of the world”。不管是在生活中、工作中還是學(xué)習(xí)中，只要你感覺特別特別“happy”，那你就是“on top of the world”！表示這個(gè)意思的短語還有“walking on air”、“on cloud nine”等等。
盡管關(guān)于“on top of the world”沒有特別值得一提的故事，但這句話“千分之一千”地風(fēng)靡全球。1973年，卡彭特兄妹的單曲“Top of the world”成為當(dāng)年“100首熱門歌曲”之一，并獲得“美國最佳單曲”的稱號(hào)。還有，1955年和1977年都上演了名為“Top of the world”的電影。
當(dāng)然了，生活總是有喜有悲的，有時(shí)也會(huì)“down in the dumps（情緒低落、失望）”。“Being up or on top”表示“心情很好”，而“down”則表達(dá)相反的意思。
