A makerspace (also referred to as a hacklab, hackerspace or hackspace) is a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate.
創客空間指的是社區化運營的工作空間，在這里，有共同興趣的人們（通常是對電腦、機械、技術、科學、數字藝術活電子技術）可以聚會，社交，展開合作。

The workshop offers tools, materials, and expertise for people to work on do-it-yourself projects.

Libraries have also begun offering “makerspaces” — shared workspaces that provide technological tools and are designed to facilitate collaborative work.

Makerspaces, hackerspaces, and fab labs are popping up left and right both in and out of New York. They’re a part of the growing maker movement, which encourages people to invent and create.
創客空間也稱為hackerspaces或fab labs，在全球不斷涌現。它是蓬勃發展的創客運動的一部分，鼓勵人們創新。

“創客”（maker）是指出于興趣與愛好，努力把各種創意轉變為現實的人。在互聯網的背景下，創客又有了新的定義，他們可以利用開源硬件和互聯網，把更多的創意轉變為產品。

另外，來自資本市場的熱錢(hot money)涌動，更是讓創客經濟一時熱得燙手。在很多城市，都成了創客空間，為創客的創業和創新提供便利，這也是為經濟發展增添新動力(new driving force)。
