Construction begins on Shanghai's fourth-largest rail hub

Construction has begun on Baoshan Railway Station in Shanghai, with completion scheduled for June 30, 2027.
Once operational, it is expected to become the city's fourth-largest railway hub.
With eight platforms and 18 tracks, the new station will surpass both Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station in scale, ranking just behind Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai East, and Shanghai Songjiang stations.
Shanghai East Railway Station is also under construction and slated to open on July 1, 2027.
Located in Baoshan district, Baoshan Railway Station will be the only major high-speed rail hub serving northern Shanghai.
Designed to handle up to 148,000 passengers daily — or around 54 million annually — it will rival the current Shanghai Railway Station in capacity.
The station will also be China's second double-deck railway facility.
The upper level will serve the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu High-Speed Railway, while the underground level will handle the Shanghai–Nantong Railway.
Baoshan Railway Station will also be the northern terminus of the under-construction Metro Line 19.
With connections to multiple existing, under-construction and planned major railways and expressways, it is set to become a major transportation hub.
Once in service, the station is expected to significantly improve travel convenience for residents of Baoshan, Hongkou, Yangpu, and northern Pudong.
