Prada dining space serves style on a plate

Prada has announced the imminent opening of Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai, its first independent dining space in Asia. This venture was conceptualized and created by director Wong Kar-wai.
This marks the second collaboration between Prada and Wong who drew inspiration from the philatelic concept of "Tête-bêche," which involves pairs of stamps that mirror and juxtapose each other, providing the design inspiration for the project. This concept creates an intellectual and visual dialogue linking Milan and Shanghai, where two profound cultures subtly converge.
Entering the poetic dimension unique to Wong, every detail within this space is meticulously crafted, exuding a cinematic atmosphere reminiscent of Wong's iconic films In the Mood for Love and Happy Together. The design centers on mirroring and contrast, balancing diverse cultural and visual references, showcasing Prada's timeless elegance while highlighting the historical charm of Rong Zhai. Italian and Chinese traditions meet here, not seeking complete fusion, but rather retaining their unique identities to complement and elevate each other.

The café and restaurant, located on the second floor of Rong Zhai, offer all-day dining services and a fine dining experience. The menu harmoniously blends two rich and diverse culinary traditions, with different ingredients, flavors, and techniques interweaving to transform gastronomy into a true expression of cultural dialogue.
Previously, the Prada Foundation collaborated with filmmaker Wes Anderson to successfully create Bar Luce at the Prada Foundation in Milan. Building on this, Mi Zhong Prada Rong Zhai continues the brand's long-term commitment to fostering artistic dialogue and promoting artistic practice.
The café and restaurant will officially open to the public on March 31, with opening celebrations from March 28 to March 30. Opening hours will be from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Starting from noon on March 29, reservations can be made via the "Mi Zhong Prada Rong Zhai" WeChat mini program.
Rong Zhai, built in the early 20th century, is a historic mansion located in the heart of Shanghai. After meticulous restoration by Prada, Rong Zhai was opened to the public in 2017. As one of the most exquisite Western-style villas in Shanghai, it was originally the former residence of the renowned Rong Zongjing (1873-1938) family and has now become a unique venue for Prada's various events in China.
The restoration of Rong Zhai showcases the successful collaboration between Western architects and Chinese scholars and craftsmen.
Since 2018, with the support of the Prada Foundation, Prada Rong Zhai has hosted twelve art exhibitions and cultural events. The upcoming exhibition, Mirroring: Lucio Fontana and Michelangelo Pistoletto, will be open to the public from Thursday to June 15.
