State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company: Power empowers dual circulation, and smart agriculture aids rural revitalization

In the warm spring, with bright scenery, flowers bloom profusely and leaves turn lush green. In the sunlight greenhouse in Kaoshan village, Nanhuang town, Rushan city, Weihai, Shandong province, as Gu Gaofeng, the first secretary stationed in the village, gently moves his finger, the automated temperature, humidity and fertilization control machines in the greenhouse power up. Wang Xiaoming, a farmer, says cheerfully, "This year's harvest is even higher than last year's."
Kaoshan village in Nanhuang town, Rushan city, is a major administrative village relying on traditional planting and breeding. Since the State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company signed a village-grid co-construction agreement with the village in 2023, in conjunction with the local government of Nanhuang town, it has explored, innovated and promoted the development model of "Power - Empowering Dual - Cycle of Agricultural Economy and Smart Agriculture for Rural Revitalization". It has also dispatched the first secretary to the village for assistance. Relying on local fig planting, it has promoted energy-use transformation. Through various efforts, 14 power-assisted agricultural projects have been introduced, such as intelligent grain storage and drying barns and graphite flour workshops, benefiting a total of 16 surrounding natural villages. The annual economic benefits of the village collective and farmers have increased by 1.67 million yuan.

The State Grid Weihai Power Supply Company carried out a pilot project regarding the flexible control of the distribution area integration terminals and photovoltaic inverters in Kaoshan village, addressing shortcomings related to electricity, and consolidating the foundation for "benefiting the people and rural revitalization". The capacity of the original No 1 distribution area transformer has been increased from 200 kilovolt-ampere to 400 kVA.
Moreover, 21 utility poles and 4,000 meters of service wires have been replaced. As a result, the voltage quality and power supply reliability of the village-level power grid have been improved simultaneously. The company has also helped build rural electrified low-carbon planting greenhouses and intelligent-control breeding demonstration rooms. This enables automatic control of temperature, humidity, fertilizer and feed throughout the planting and breeding processes, optimizing and stabilizing the optimal growth environment for crops. This ensures the continuous production and sales of high-quality and high-yield agricultural products 365 days a year.
To better advocate for green energy, the company focuses on smart agricultural transformation and contributes to the construction of "green villages". It has installed new energy vehicle charging piles right at the villagers' "doorsteps" and established a Power Rainbow Grid Service Station. This has led to the integration of multiple rural support elements such as electricity, water, gas, heating, postal services, roads and telecommunication into the "village-grid co-construction", making it more convenient for farmers to handle affairs and for the "electrification" of agricultural product transportation and distribution. Kaoshan village has gradually formed a radiation effect of "one station, one point, one characteristic for one area", resulting in the emergence of the "Kaoshan" model for rural revitalization.
