China committed to healthy relations with Germany

Germany held its federal election on Sunday, following the collapse of the "traffic light coalition", a coalition government of the Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the Free Democratic Party, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The result of the snap election, which features four major parties vying for voter support, namely the Christian Democratic Union and its Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union, Scholz's Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the far-right Alternative for Germany, will determine the composition of the new Bundestag, Germany's lower house of parliament, and, ultimately, the next chancellor.

No matter which party wins the election, Beijing remains committed to promoting the healthy development of Sino-German relations. Sino-German ties are of strategic significance to both sides and the world at large, and China's Germany policy remains unchanged.

China believes the relationship is of a win-win nature and maintaining its stability serves both sides' common interest as well as contributes to the stability of China-EU relations.

That's also the core message Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent to the German side during his meeting with the German leader in their meeting in Munich on Feb 15.

As Wang said, the high-level interactions between China and Germany have been frequent and bilateral pragmatic cooperation has maintained good momentum and yielded positive results, which have served the fundamental and long-term interests of both peoples. That momentum should be carried on.

China is willing to deepen comprehensive cooperation with Germany to advance bilateral relations in a positive direction, safeguard global peace and stability, and provide greater certainty to an increasingly turbulent world, he added.

China appreciates Germany's rational and pragmatic stance on the EU's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and hopes Germany will continue to play a constructive role in trying to resolve the China-EU trade frictions.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic ties. The two sides should deepen their pragmatic cooperation to help foster stronger China-EU relations.
