The Cyberspace Administration of China, the nation's internet regulator, has pledged to address the misuse of AI technology and the defamation of businesses and entrepreneurs in its online campaign this year.

The administration announced on Friday that it will strengthen the oversight of AI technology and AI-generated content, advance the identification of generated and synthetic content and crack down on AI-generated misinformation and disinformation, as well as online trolling.

It also pointed out that the online business environment will be further purified through intensified handling of negative information concerning enterprises. Specifically, it will tighten scrutiny on misconducts, such as the smear and slander of businesses and entrepreneurs, as well as false and inaccurate comments and disparagement of products and services.

These measures come as part of the administration's regular operation to combat various problems and irregularities on the internet and safeguard cyberspace integrity.

"This year's operation will continue focusing on protecting the rights of internet users by eliminating all types of harmful information, in a bid to build a clearer and more orderly online environment," the administration said.

Key actions of the 2025 campaign also include regulating the online environment during Spring Festival, addressing the spread of false information by independent media publishers, curbing malicious short video advertising, enhancing the online environment for minors during the summer vacation, rectifying issues related to online live-streaming rewards and handling malicious incitement of negative emotions.

An official of the Cyberspace Administration said that more actions will be taken as needed and the administration will continue to purify online content, regulate the features and services of applications and foster a healthier online environment.
