Book fair highlights late Beijing Opera master's connection with Beijing

"Hong Kong people's profound feelings toward Peking opera, especially for the Mei Lanfang art school's works, show their love for Chinese traditional culture. Mei set a good example for the cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Beijing. I believe the two cities will cooperate further in spreading Chinese culture," said professor Cheng Pei-kai, chairman of the Hong Kong branch of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association.
"Mei planted a seed of fine traditional Chinese culture in Hong Kong, bringing mainland and Hong Kong compatriots closer together. Today, cultural and artistic exchanges between the two cities are showing an increasingly close, rich, and healthy development trend. In the future, we look forward to strengthening exchanges with the Hong Kong art community through various forms," said Jin Fei, founding honorary president of the Beijing Opera Critic Society.
Peking Opera actress Zheng Xiao from Beijing performed the famous Peking Opera piece "Mu Guiying Takes Command", a story about a great warrior woman during the event, making the audience better understand Chinese traditional culture in a deeper way.
To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Mei's birth, a "Mei Lanfang Photo Exhibition" was also held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, showcasing his artistic achievements and life journey.
