Liberian official hails China for helping vulnerable groups

Liberian Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah has expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for continuously helping vulnerable groups, especially women and children in Liberia.
Jallah said support from China through its South-South Cooperation health and nutrition projects is greatly improving women and children health and nutrition status, including the quality of life.
In November 2020, the Chinese government provided $1 million to UNICEF in earmarked funds under the South-South Cooperation Fund to support Liberia's fight against COVID-19, and to provide Liberian women and children basic healthcare and nutrition services.
Jallah spoke recently in the county of Margibi during a visit and handover of medical supplies from UNICEF through China Aid.
Jallah said the project's priority is to provide high-quality routine newborn care supplies to 60 health institutions in counties, including Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa. "The provision of essential commodities will enhance access to quality healthcare at these facilities across the country. It will contribute to the reduction in deaths of newborn and children."
The medical supplies handover included equipment such as surgical kits, cardiotocography monitors, scanners and resuscitation platforms.
